Book 2 in the Space Opera Thriller series

The second-quickest way to get yourself killed when dealing with Coldi people of the planet Asto is to look a superior in the eye. The Coldi people possess an instinct that demands the formation of hierarchical networks in which every person has a prescribed place. These networks provide stability. They also place one person at the top.
Ezhya Palayi is that person.
After having been released by his previous employers, Cory Wilson not only depends on Ezhya Palayi for his income, but he has developed an unusually friendly relationship with this man whom people on Earth would call an absolute dictator, but whose reign is benign.
The third-quickest way to get yourself killed when dealing with Coldi people is when the leader you depended on for support is suddenly no longer there, as when he goes missing because the system society relies on for interstellar travel goes down.
In a highly-strung hierarchical society, it won’t be long before someone else tries to claim the top spot, someone less benign, someone aggressive who is likely to destabilise peace between Asto and other worlds.
But by far the quickest way to get yourself killed is, as a non-Coldi outsider, to visit Asto and try to interfere in their hierarchical system, to mess with instincts you don’t feel yourself, and people who are much stronger than you.
Oh, and did you know that the average daytime temperature is well over 50 degrees C?

Ambassador 2 Raising Hell Ambassador Space Opera Thriller Series Book 3 eBook Patty Jansen

This was a hard book to decide on the number of stars. I would have probably gone 4.5 stars if that were available. But I guess we have to round up when it's close.

Ms Jansen is great at building the world her characters inhabit. The traditions and mores of the various races are fantastic. The races are wonderfully defined, even better than in the first book. Extending the internal political structures of the Coldi was magnificent in this book.

Here's where I debated calling this a 4 star book: There were too many plot twists that were similar to Ambassador 1. I won't go deeply into them, but as they say history doesn't repeat itself but it rhymes. I thought too much of the overall flow of the story rhymed with Ambassador 1. Not the same, but similar.

One suggestion for readers. If you're planning to read the entire series, invest the time in taking some notes about the characters. I found myself several times in this book trying to remember who a character is when they reappear. What is the relationship between this character and others? I know Ms Jansen can't repeat herself continually to remind us who a character is, but I found myself struggling to keep various (especially female) characters clear in my mind. There are getting to be a lot of characters. Not a GRRM cast but getting formidable. And I'm sure Ambassador 3 will only add to the count.

But don't let my quibbles about plot points or my bad memory for characters deter anybody from reading this book. It's my favorite series of the year thus far. I really loved it. The world building alone should be a textbook on how deeply authors should think about their world before the first character is invented. It's obvious Ms Jansen spent untold hours creating her world before starting the series. And it was work well done.

Ambassador 2 Raising Hell Ambassador Space Opera Thriller Series Book 3 eBook Patty Jansen Reviews

Just finished #3 Raising Hell. Good read. Really good world building in a multi cultural society. I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to starting #3.
For me, the books in "the ambassador" series keep getting better. The main character, Cory, keeps getting into difficult situations which, until some outside source, and a lot of luck, keeps him alive, of course his "partner" and her brother watch over him...now on to the installment of " the ambassador "
This is the third book I have read in this series. I continue to enjoy the characters and the descriptions of other worlds. She includes lots of action. It is also an interesting exploration of the clash of cultures and how the protagonists try to resolve the conflicts. Unfortunately they sometimes have to resort to violence. I plan to buy the next book in the series.
Cory gets married and the happy day gets deep-sixed by the disappearance of his patron and the President of Earth, and the total shutdown of transportation and communication. He has to find a way, with his team, to keep the balance of power on his patron's world. And while he's at it investigate the claims of an origin race. Once again non-stop action, great storytelling.
The more of Patty Jansen's work I read, the more I like her writing.

Raising Hell follows on from Ambassador Seeing Red. It's the second book in the series, and it moved the story right along.

It was great to reunite with the characters I'd become so fond of, and see their relationships develop. I really enjoyed learning more about the complexities of 'gamra' and the multi-tiered 'associations' formed by the Coldi.

It takes quite a bit of skill to develop a human, but not yet human species and make it hang together. Cory, the main character was once again a great read. I've lived in the Pilbara in Western Australia, and Patty Jansen truly captured the excruciating discomfort of overheating. At points in the story I felt as if I was back there, working hard in the baking sun and feeling the fluid being sucked out of my body by the unrelenting heat.

It's great to see a clever author writing good Science Fiction.

I'll continue to read Patty Jansen's stories, and as five star reads, I'll be reading them more than once.
Try to imagine a world that includes many planets and several types of species of intelligent beings. That is this story which involves a man from earth working on another planet for beings totally different from what he knows. A love story when he meets a woman from his employers world, falls in love, gets the girl and tries with all his might to fit into her world. Not all is happiness and bliss however and as he finds himself trying to deal with the politics and laws of his adopted realm. Can he possibly survive or will this new world take away every thing important to him? A must read for anyone who loves adventure and has a great imagination. Loved this book and look forward to finding more of Ms Jansen's writings!
Continues the adventures of Cory Wilson, Earth's somewhat neglected ambassador to gamra, the intergalactic wormhole-transport network. More fraught political, social and interpersonal drama ensues between rather spectacular explosions. While very much one piece of a series - none of the big background mysteries set up in the first volume are resolved in Raising Hell, and big new questions arise to boot - this is a fast-paced political thriller that's easy to devour despite the horribly complex web of factions and agendas. I will certainly continue reading the series.
